Gerd Ludwig is among the world’s leading documentary photographers. He has captured people’s everyday lives in over seventy countries in an atmospheric and compelling way. “Photography is a form of communication. I share my view of the world with the viewer,” emphasizes the 54-year-old photographer from Alfeld, Hesse. His images, which always reveal a great deal about the social and cultural context of each country, appear on the covers of world-renowned magazines such as Geo, National Geographic, Time, Life, and Newsweek. His work for American magazines was a key factor in Gerd Ludwig’s decision to move to the U.S. in the mid-1980s. Today, he lives in Los Angeles.
