1890. Cenzi, an Austrian woman, has a dream. She wants to be the first person—and the first woman—to climb Mount Ushba in Georgia. In 1903, she gets her big chance. After some initial resistance, the men of the so-called Caucasus Expedition take Cenzi with them. As a woman, she is very popular, and as a feminist, she is very self-confident. When Schulze, the bravest mountaineer and in love with Cenzi, falls into a crevasse out of competitive ambition, he endangers the entire group, seriously injuring Cenzi’s brother and himself. Brother Heinrich cannot continue climbing, but Schulze wants to try despite his injuries. How does Cenzi decide in this situation?
