A novelist would have a hard time inventing a life story as incredible as that of Brazilian star pianist João Carlos Martins. Success and personal tragedy, traumatic injuries and triumphant comebacks mark his fate. In the early ’60s, the temperamental Brazilian, who plays soccer and the piano with equal passion, is celebrated as the greatest Bach interpreter since Glenn Gould. But a fatal injury upsets his life. The artist plunges into one adventure after the other. At the end of the 90s, Martin’s career seems to be over for good when the nerve in his right hand is severed. The one-armed pianist decides to play only with his left hand. With fanatical zeal, he asks his left hand to do the work of two. A concert in London with a renowned orchestra is already scheduled. And once again the unbelievable happens. João Carlos Martins is devastated. The dream of great success as a pianist seems to be gone forever.
The film accompanies João Carlos Martins in the most difficult hours of his life, following the traces of his past triumphs and dramas. Unique footage from his childhood and youth brings his colorful world to life. Martin’s encounters with his friend, soccer genius Pele, and jazz legend Dave Brubeck provide moments of great happiness. And in the end, another little miracle happens.
A film about a man who never gives up and who remains true to his passion, music.
