A Way Out – successful in the cinema in China
In China, too, there is scope for documentaries in the cinema. The film “A Way Out” by Cherelle Qiong Zheng, co-produced by Lichtfilm, is experiencing an unprecedented career in Chinese cinema. By August of this year, 221 cinema screenings had taken place and the film had raised over 70,000 euros.
How did this happen? Because the Chinese donor did not support the distribution of the film, Cherelle Qiong Zheng began the cumbersome application procedure with the state authority in October last year. After a few months she received the release and on April 17th the license for the cinema screenings. One day later she signed the contract with the distributor “Elemeet”. The distributor is a filmmaker himself and the establishment of the distributor was a stopgap solution for him because his own films did not find distributors.
The film “A Way Out” will be shown in more provinces and cinemas until 2019. The press and especially the online media have published very vivid retellings of the film with many stills. Several million people have seen and at least partially read these publications. Several online portals have shown interest in the film.
