In this portrait of Lale Andersen, we not only want to tell the singer’s life story, but also try to get to the bottom of the “Lili Marleen” phenomenon and the legend that grew out of it. What was the mixture of talent, luck, zeitgeist and chance that made Lale Andersen a world-famous singer? What is the fascination of this song that still makes the hearts of today’s soldiers beat faster? Legend and reality – these are the poles between which the film’s narrative will move, for behind the singer’s radiant star facade lies a person full of contradictions and inner tragedy.

The film was shown at the following festivals and won the following awards Grand Prix for the best foreign film at the Golden Chest Film and TV Festival Plovdiv, Bulgaria; New German Films at the Museum of Modern Art New York; Nordische Filmtage Lübeck; Internationales.
