Irene Langemann was commissioned by Deutsche Welle TV to make a documentary for their series on German Photographers. After months of research, she found the photographer Gerd Ludwig, who lives in Los Angeles, and decided to portray him. The result was a co-production by DW TV and Lichtfilm, which has retained the German rights. Shooting was done in February in Los Angeles, Paris, Burkina Faso and Alsfeld.
